If you haven't already checked it out, I encourage you to stop by the blog of Vernon Evans. Evans is serving on death row in Maryland and recently received a stay of execution from an April 18 death warrant. This is the first blog I am aware of for an individual on death row. The blog is ghost written by Virginia Simmons who sends Vernon questions through the mail and then posts his responses.

As you can see, I deleted two comments. In the beginning of this blog, I noted that anyone was welcome to leave comments as long as they were constructive and were not abusive or vengeful. The first comment that I deleted was a vengeful, hateful statement against Vernon Evans and what the commentator felt should be done to him. The second was merely a commentary on the first which had no context without the first. I am the first person to champion the right to free speech. However, this is a private blog, run by a private citizen, and this comment was merely hateful and completely disgusting (it may have simply been meant to get a rise out of me or another reader).
I will continue to delete comments that are like this. I believe in constructive discourse, but hate and vengence, when expressed in this manner, are not constructive.
